Mental Health America (MHA)




MHA (formerly known as the National Mental Health Association) is a nonprofit "dedicated to helping all people live mentally healthier lives." Its site provides facts sheets on mental health topics by audience (such as older adults), issue (such as eating disorders and depression), and disorders and treatment (such as bipolar disorder and phobias). Also includes material about policy issues and advocacy efforts, paying for medications, and links to news. Some material also in Spanish.

Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General




This 1999 Surgeon General's report "found that, even though a great deal was already known about how to treat mental illness, much remained to be learned. ... The groundbreaking report also found that, although a range of effective treatments existed ... nearly half of all Americans with severe mental illnesses failed to seek treatment."
