Executive Order: Revised List of Quarantinable Communicable Diseases
A list of the communicable diseases for which an individual may be quarantined by federal law. The list includes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and "Cholera, Diphtheria, infectious Tuberculosis, Plague, Smallpox, Yellow Fever, and Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers (Lassa, Marburg, Ebola, Crimean-Congo, South American, and others not yet isolated or named)." Healthcare Associated Infections
February 2006 report from the British Medical Association (BMA) that "investigates the increasing problem of healthcare associated infections (HCAIs)." While this report focuses on British National Health Service (NHS) hospitals, it provides insight into general areas of possible concern, such as antimicrobial resistance, hand hygiene, and dress codes in the clinical setting ("refrain from wearing functionless clothing items such as ties," which may harbor germs). ProMED-Mail (Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases)
The Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases is a "global electronic reporting system for outbreaks of emerging infectious diseases and toxins." ProMED-Mail serves as a central site for news, updates, and discussions of outbreaks of emerging and re-emerging diseases.
