The Geo-Images Project




A diverse collection of "images (mostly photographs) that are useful in teaching geography." Exhibits include the California environment, daily life in Morocco and Hong Kong, Afghanistan (1976-1978), historic magic lantern slides of California, Western states and provinces, waterfalls and aerial geography of Western North America, the Kiwai Coast of Papua New Guinea, Arabia (Yemen and Saudi Arabia), virtual reality panoramas, and geomorphology. Maps In Our Lives




The online companion to this 2006-2007 library exhibit "explores surveying, cartography, geodesy, and geographic information systems." Some of the many topic covered at this site are adventure, history, nature, and exploration. There are sections for children and teachers. The photography area has an archived gallery and technical advice. There is also a broad, searchable NGS Publications Index back to 1888 of all their magazines (such as National Geographic, Traveler, and World), films, videos, books, maps, and other publications. National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC)




The NGDC provides "geophysical data describing the solid earth, marine, and solar-terrestrial environment, as well as earth observations from space." The 18 U.S. National Geography Standards are available along with an atlas, related classroom ideas, and family activities.
