The National Audubon Society Web site is an excellent North American bird conservation resource, providing state-by-state information on bird species that are threatened, endangered, or of special concern. There are Christmas Bird Count reports, conservation and political action programs, a directory of local chapters, a brief biography of John James Audubon, and classroom activities and other materials for children. There are related links and topics in each section.

Birds of the Brumidi Corridors: "To Make Beautiful the Capitol"




This exhibit features sample images from "Constantino Brumidi (1805-1880) [who] included designs for more than 350 individual birds of at least 100 species in the Senate corridors that today bear his name. This finely rendered aviary is part of a sophisticated decorative scheme inspired by early 15th-century Renaissance frescoes in the Vatican Palace." ORNIS (Ornithological Information System)




This site features a database of thousands of bird specimen records from nearly three dozen North American biocollections, most of which are available online. Collection data may be searched by factors such as scientific name, location, and date collected. The project is funded by the National Science Foundation and is led by individuals at the University of Kansas and the University of California, Berkeley.
