Astronomy Day




Astronomy Day, held annually in April or May (a Saturday near or before the first quarter moon), "is a grass roots movement designed to share the joy of astronomy with the general population." StarChild: A learning center for young astronomers




NASA has created an astronomy site just for children. StarChild contains sections on the solar system, the universe, and "space stuff" (astronauts, space travel, and the Hubble Space Telescope, among others). It also includes a glossary with brief explanations of astronomy-related terms. The site is highly graphical, includes movies, and is intended for the 4-14 year age group.

Stephen Hawking’s Universe




Based on the PBS program, this site explains cosmological concepts in simple, easy-to-understand language. Black holes, the big bang, antimatter, super strings, and dark matter are reviewed in Strange Stuff. Cosmological Stars features individuals who have made significant contributions in cosmology.
