The authors and their children lived in Kabul between 1967 and 1969. Includes sections on counting, an "Afghan Speakeasy" with phrases in Farsi, and a collection of stories featuring Mullah Nasrudin, a favorite character in stories throughout all of the Middle East. There are also articles about food and clothing, and a photo album. Geared to grammar school-aged children.

This online exhibit of nearly 200 photographs "documents the life and culture of Afghanistan in the late 1960s, several years before the civil unrest of the 1970s and 80s, the Soviet invasion, and the Taliban rule." This site describes a project to collect "oral history interviews, memoirs, letters, diaries, photographs, and other original materials from veterans of World Wars I and II, and the Korean, Vietnam, and Persian Gulf Wars and the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts (2001-present)."
