Final Report of the COPA Commission view detail comment email this

The Commission, appointed by Congress, was mandated by the Child Online Protection Act, approved by Congress in October 1998. The primary purpose of the Commission was to "identify technological or other methods that will help reduce access by minors to material that is harmful to minors on the Internet." The report was released to Congress on October 20, 2000. The original and amended texts of the act are in the Appendix of the report.

"China's Internet filtering regime is the most sophisticated effort of its kind in the world." This paper presents the research of the OpenNet Initiative, which "sought to determine the degree to which China filters sites on topics that the Chinese government finds sensitive." The OpenNet Initiative (ONI) is a "collaborative partnership of four leading academic institutions."

Peacefire: Open Access for the Net Generation view detail comment email this

Features critiques of filtering software (programs that are used to block access to potentially objectionable sites on the Internet) and information about how to disable these programs. Peacefire.exe is a program (free download from the site) that disables popular Windows blocking software; it works only with Windows 98. Supreme Court Decision in Reno v ACLU view detail comment email this
