"Until 1904 there were an estimated 4 billion American chestnut trees in eastern forests. Then the deadly fungus struck. The tree virtually disappeared from the American landscape." The goal of this organization "is to restore the American chestnut tree to its native forests through a scientific research and breeding program." The site features history, information about TACF programs, tree identification images, journal articles (most recent issue requires membership), and more.
