This official website of the Freedom Schooner has a history of the ship and the slave revolt that occurred on it, a photo gallery of the ship and its reconstruction, and related links in the history section "Discover." Also provides information about dockside tours as well as the ship's use as a "floating classroom," visiting national and international ports. The section "The Amistad Story" corrects some of the distortions in Steven Spielberg's movie version of the revolt.

The Endurance: Shackleton's Legendary Antarctic Expedition view detail comment email this

This combination of photographs by expedition photographer Frank Hurley, maps, diary entries, and brief explanatory text captures one of the great stories of exploration. In 1916, Sir Ernest Shackleton and five sailors made a remarkable boat and land journey to reach a whaling station and organize the rescue of the rest of his crew, stranded when their ship, "Endurance," was crushed in pack ice near Antarctica. The Last Slave Ships: Key West African Cemetery view detail comment email this

This report details the evidence of an African cemetery at Higgs Beach in Key West, Florida, and describes how it was located. Includes facsimiles of historical records, maps, graphs, tables, and photos. In 1860, the U.S. Navy intercepted three American-owned slave ships taking Africans to Cuba. Now refugees, the Africans were taken to Key West before being sent to Liberia. Many died and were buried at Higgs Beach. From the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society.

U.S.S. Indianapolis: Still at Sea view detail comment email this

This is the official site of survivors of the 1945 sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis , one of the worst disasters in naval history. When torpedoed by a Japanese submarine, over 900 sailors were left adrift in the sea for five days, and only 317 survived. Read true survivor accounts; find out about the efforts of the organization to exonerate the ship's captain, Charles Butler McVay III, from his record as responsible for the attack; and see photos (in the Links section) of the crew and the ship.
