In 1916, Sir Ernest Shackleton and five sailors made a remarkable boat and land journey to reach a whaling station and organize the rescue of the rest of his crew, stranded when their ship, "Endurance," was crushed in pack ice near Antarctica. Historical background, with anectodal and personal commentary, on the Pueblo Incident of 1968. In that year North Korea hijacked this ship, killed a crewmember, and held the remainder as prisoners for 11 months. Includes excerpts of the Court of Inquiry. The Pueblo was one of the Auxiliary General Environmental Research (AGER) ships which were "small unarmed or lightly armed...vessels." Published by the USS Pueblo Veteran's Association.

Website of "Scandinavia's most visited museum, located in Stockholm, capital of Sweden. ... In the large shiphall stands the warship Vasa — the only remaining, intact 17th century ship in the world." Features a history of the ship, which sank shortly after it began its maiden voyage in 1628 and lay on the harbor floor until salvaged in 1961, and descriptions of the museum's exhibits. This digital exhibit consists of almost 350 images taken by photographer Wilhelm Hester between 1893 and 1906. He "produced a remarkable visual documentation of the marine shipping industry in the Puget Sound region of Washington State." His photographs include details of ship construction and rigging, interior views of cabins, crew members and their pets, and tall ships loading lumber and grain. Searchable.
