The Poster War: Allied Propaganda Art of The First World War view detail comment email this

These 46 posters from the United States, Great Britain, France, and Canada illustrate three themes: comparing symbols used "to identify and vilify the enemy with those which were used to unify and encourage Allied society," soldiers as propaganda subjects, and home-front images. Posters may be browsed from thumbnail images, but to obtain artist information they must be accessed from the exhibit tour pages. In English and French from the Provincial Museum of Alberta.

Site inspired by the Institute for Propaganda Analysis (IPA), which, from 1937 to 1942, "was dedicated to promoting the techniques of propaganda analysis among critically-minded citizens." Describes fallacies in logic and common techniques such as name-calling, "glittering generalities," and euphemisms. Includes examples of propaganda from World War I, the John Birch Society, the Maoist International Movement, as well as others from recent history. Also features video clips from several movies and cartoons. From a communication professor at Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas.

Part of a series of New York Public Library exhibitions on the Spanish-American War. "Each of the communities linked to that conflict remembers and has named the war in its own particular way. Through an examination of patriotic appeals in newspapers, pamphlets, popular books, maps, sheet music, poetry, cartoons, lithographs, photographs, lantern slides, and early motion pictures, this exhibition explores the sources of those memories and perceptions."
