Encyclopedia of Cleveland History: Zoning view detail comment email this

This essay describes Cleveland's involvement in the development and application of modern zoning laws. "Several significant zoning cases have emerged from the Cleveland area, including the landmark case [Village of Euclid v. Ambler Realty Co., 1926] that established its constitutionality." Also discusses zoning developments after World War II such as zoning laws used to create racial segregation and the use of referendums for zoning issues. The encyclopedia is maintained by Case Western Reserve University.

Features "Ohio History Central," an online encyclopedia covering natural history, prehistory, and history. "Resources" includes a death certificate index (1913-1937), a newspaper index, state archives information, Civil War documents, military rosters (War of 1812), and an online catalog of over 200,000 items. "Primary Resources for Teachers" has a database of mostly 19th-century primary documents covering such topics as alcohol, criminals, labor, and Native Americans. Maintains a calendar of events.
