Information about the celebration of May Day on May 1 in France. This national holiday, known as the "Fête du Travail" (worker's holiday), is commemorated by "the buying for oneself or one's loved ones or friends a pot or bouquet of lily of the valley (muguet des bois)." Part of a series of "Paris Postcards" written by an American expatriate living in Paris.

The purpose of this annual event in Edmonton, Canada, "is to promote the interests of cultural workers and trade unionists, and to bring working-class culture from the margins of cultural activity onto centre stage."
