 "A national database of literacy programs available via the Internet and the National Institute for Literacy's toll-free number. The ALD connects employers, learners, volunteers, social service providers, and others to current information about literacy programs in all 50 states and the U.S. territories." This study ranks the largest ten U.S. cities with populations of 250,000 and above. The six key indicators of literacy are "newspaper circulation, number of bookstores, library resources, periodical publishing resources, educational attainment, and Internet resources." The study was published by Dr. John W.
