"Every 14 days a language dies. By 2100, more than half of the more than 7,000 languages spoken on Earth ... will likely disappear." This goal of this project "is to document endangered languages and prevent language extinction." Features background about selected endangered-language hot spots around the world (with some sound clips), a discussion of global trends, descriptions of expeditions, and a glossary. UNESCO Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger view detail comment email this

This atlas "is intended to raise awareness about language endangerment and the need to safeguard the world's linguistic diversity." The 2009 edition "lists about 2,500 languages (among which 230 languages extinct since 1950)." The online edition includes an interactive atlas showing each language's name, degree of endangerment, number of speakers, relevant policies and projects, and more. Part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage page administered by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
