This site is devoted to the history of a landmark event in the history of school integration in the American South. In 1957, nine African-American high school students were the first to enroll in the all-white Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Fearing an explosion of violence, President Eisenhower ordered that troops of the National Guard be brought in to protect the students.
