"The California Department of Fish and Game's Fish Bulletin is a core resource for the study of fish and fisheries in California. Continuously published as a monographic series since 1913, but slowing down publication in recent years, the Fish Bulletin contains in-depth monographs on a variety of topics, primarily marine, and also including some non-fish marine species." This exhibit describes the early days of the commercial fishing industry in Gig Harbor, Washington state. Tells the story of the fishing community that developed after pioneers settled in Gig Harbor in 1867, fished with handmade nets, and built a smokehouse and a plant to render dogfish oil. Longline Fishing Threatens Seabirds and Other Marine Life view detail comment email this

Explains the dangers of longline fishing, "a technique used to catch fish in open waters, including those who live near the sea floor" that includes a main line "with secondary lines branching off it, each set with hundreds or thousands of barbed, baited hooks." The mission of the Seafood Choices Alliance is to provide seafood purveyors (fishers, chefs, retailers, etc.) with the information necessary to make responsible choices about seafood. To this end the site includes the SeaSense Database , a list of specific fish with descriptions of how the fish are caught and recommendations from sources such as the National Audubon Society and the Monterey Bay Aquarium on whether to use the fish.
