Exploring Magnetism Lesson Series view detail comment email this

This series of lesson plans (intended for grades 6-12) covers topics related to magnetism, allowing students to "act as scientists discovering magnetic fields and electromagnetism through inquiry and measurement." Some of the topics discussed include solar wind, solar flares, and space weather. In addition to activities, the lesson plans provide background material and glossaries. Green-e: Renewable Electricity Program view detail comment email this

This site describes the Green-e program, a voluntary certification of electricity companies selling energy comprised of at least 50% "Renewable Electricity Resources." Additionally, participants must increase the renewable components of their products by 5% each year for five years. The site also includes other requirements for certification, as well as reasons why consumers should switch to a "green" company and information on how to do so.

Information about fires possibly started by static electricity during the refueling of cars. This is part of a public safety campaign "prompted by a sharp increase of incidents that could not be attributed to a running engine or cigarette smoking, the leading known causes of such fires." The FAQ has refueling safety tips and also addresses some false information attributed to the site publisher.

Theoretical Blueprint for Invisibility Cloak Reported view detail comment email this

Article about how "researchers at Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering and Imperial College London have developed the blueprint for an invisibility cloak." The invisibility cloak would be made of "exotic artificial composite materials called 'metamerials'" and "electromagnetic waves would flow around an object hidden inside the metamaterial cloak." Researchers believe "the cloak could have numerous uses, from defense applications to wireless communications." From the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University.
