In December 2006 this commission "unveiled recommendations calling for the biggest changes in the American education system in a century." Suggestions include offering universal pre-kindergarten programs, and enrolling students in college after 10th grade. In October 2008 three governors announced their support. Serving the Pacific Northwest, the NWREL is a private, nonprofit corporation working to improve "educational results for children, youth, and adults by providing research and development assistance in delivering equitable, high-quality educational programs." Their Web site contains resources for educators, policymakers, and parents covering workshops, conferences, publications, newsletters, and NWREL projects. Publications can be viewed online or downloaded free of charge. Portions of the site are also available in Spanish.
