This article provides an overview of the Israeli kibbutz movement, which began with "a small group of young Jewish immigrants from eastern Europe, inspired by Zionist and socialist ideals, set[ting] up the first kvutza ('group' in Hebrew, renamed kibbutz, 'community' when membership grew)" in Palestine.
