This article describes the early relationship and almost nine-year courtship of Harry Truman and Bess Wallace Truman. Includes discussion of their correspondence and a copy of a 1911 letter "in which he asks a very surprising question: 'Speaking of diamonds would you wear a solitaire one on your left hand should I get it?"
